Description
The Matatena or Matatenas is a very particular game in Mexico in which it influences mainly the skill of the participants, and to a much smaller extent the chance. Its name is derived from the Nahuatl Language, "matetena": to fill the hand of stones; and comes from ma-itl (hand), te-tl (stone) and tena-lia (fill).
The jacks are thrown to the ground and a rubber ball is bounced to the ground, while the ball is in the air jacks are collected one at a time in the first turn.
